Future Plans

Plans for the future: Little difficulty exists in adding NUF500 devices in places where there is a suitable all year-round stream or pond that is contaminated and yet reasonably close to a village of hundreds to a thousand individual. We and others could spend years doing this until water was available using the usual urban distribution technology.

Easy Water’s basic plan is to continue adding NUF500 devices in small villages in areas of Ghana, but another challenging opportunity in Ghana has arisen – schools and clinics.  In the area of Abono/Nyameani in the Bosomtwe District, we are making preliminary plans to place the NUF500 at two of their schools covering approximately 400 pupils and the central health clinic for these two villages. Easy Water would like to assist with the establishment of a larger device which requires power for the village itself.  It makes no sense to place an NUF500 in the 2 schools and their clinic only to have the villagers drinking contaminated water in their homes.  This will require cooperation of the NUFiltration company and another NGO (already identified) to help in funding raising for this larger power-driven device.  We are very excited about the possibility of such an effective joint project.

What is a cause for great concern is the situation in an area of Northern Ghana, in the area of Sandema which is due north of Tamale, where a population is spread over a wide area. Water is obtained from numerous shallow, contaminated wells in the area, where providing a NUF500 device for each well would be impractical. The best answer would seem to be a few centralized boreholes producing water for purification; however, this increases the walking distance, sometimes by a significant amount which leads to the villagers returning to the contaminated well for drinking water.  This is a problem which is still in need of a solution.

The demand for our approach is unlimited and could only be satisfied by a very much larger organization than Easy Water.  However, we will continue our efforts to respond to specific demands.

Outside of the country of Ghana, numerous possibilities have been presented to us.  A few examples are: Tanzania and Bolivia.  One is an isolated island off the coast of Mwanza in Lake Victoria called Bezi.  A site visit has already been made by the Easy Water team and collaborative discussions are occurring at this time to assist a population that desperately needs pure drinking water.  A second effort is being discussed for the rainforest area of Bolivia.  Again, a collaborative effort is in discussion with an existing NGO that has made significant progress with water purification in areas that have power but up to now have not been able to progress in villages without power.  

Somewhere in the world of “suppose if……, we have possible opportunities In India on a grand scale. The International Society of Nephrology is studying the application of dialysis in India (amongst other low-income countries) and the view we hold is that, it is moral to introduce clean water to prevent renal failure than to establish dialysis for the relatively few number of people who need dialysis.  The relative costs are very much in favor of prevention.
